As the sea and the sky were embracing last night,
The sea to the sky did say:
“My love, my life and my heart’s delight,
Will we always be this way?
Will you come to my bed, will I not be denied
When your work of the daylight is done?
Will you take all your joy in the swell of my tide
As your darkness and mine become one?”

Above them the waxing moon covered her face
With her veil made of mist and the blackest of lace.

Then the sky to the sea said, “Do not be perplexed,
Or question our passion’s consistence,
For never, I’ll give you a cause to be vexed,
Can there be, between us, any distance?
Adorable Sea, your perfection draws me
With the song of your waves on the shore,
Our love will not change, for eternity,
We’ll be as we are now, evermore.”

Above them the waxing moon, pallid and sere,
Turned away from the scene, and dropped one single tear.
